« on: March 10, 2006, 03:55:40 pm »

2) I have a proliant ML350 G3 with a SmartArray 5300 (5304-256 v3.54) Xeon 2.8 ghz and 512Mo DDR (for testing)

I love Debian and i want to install a Sarge (with kernel 2.6 "linux26 on prompt") on my server. Install start but bug. I have a problem on Install GRUB in boot sector. i use debian-31r1-i386-binary-1.iso.

if i try to install an old distrib, woody, with "bf24 on prompt", this distrib use LILO i think and install is OK.

So somebody can help me to make my server UP with a nice Debian SARGE with kernel 2.6 ?

Very very thank u for your help by advance.

hello!  bonjour!

Welcome here! Smiley Now, for your problem.

It is also possible to install LILO with Debian Sarge (3.1r1), but to do this, you need the "expert mode" installer, it's explained in the bootmenu of the CD.

If you want to install GRUB 'after' your Debian is installed, you should first apt-get  install grub, and then do a manual installation of GRUB. (grub-install)

cheers
