Best HP workstation?
« on: May 04, 2005, 11:25:35 pm »

We are having a bit of difficulty with our vendor.  We would like to have one stock machine that can be sent to our various satellite locales, and all be the same architecture.  We have tried the DX2000, and haven't had much luck with the internal NIC.

Our vendor also recommended the DC5000.  Has anyone had any experience with the DC5000, or similar with Debian Woody running the 2.4.27 kernel?

Maybe there should be a poll or something, which states which HP machines have the easiest time installing the onboard NIC (our #1 concern).

We would prefer to use broadcom if possible (hence the DC5000)

Thanks as always.

most hp servers and workstations have the broadcom Gbit chipsets installed.
i have a d330 at work and its working perfectly with sarge.
the problem with woody is that most installcd dont have a kernel that supports this nic.
a 2.4.27 kernel is recommend.
the tg3 module should work on most of this chipsets.
btw i would recommend you to use sarge for workstations, woody is too much outdated when it comes to desktop stuff.
Sarge has a recent kernel with most drivers build as module.
and finally sarge got frezzed today, so there wont be that much updates anymore.

from the hardware specs i would say linux should be running good on the DC5000.
