Well, nice server.

But the agents as we currently know them won't work on this one..

i tring to setup an UBUNTU  7.10 server on an old Proliant 6400r. My hardware isn't reported into  compatibility matrix.

Hi Riccardo,

I have no idea what type of machine the 6400r is, can you inform me?

And for the monitoring.. if it's not in the compatibility matrix I'm afraid it won't work with the agents as explained on this website. Maybe have a go with ipmitool and/or lmsensors? (depending on the hardware and chipset)

Very true, sarge was a bit outdated (older kernel, older drivers) when all those new(er) machines arrived. The etch installer solved this mostly because it came with a newer kernel.

The newer HP servers currently also have newer chips (raid/nic/..) so it can become a problem in the near future if you don't keep the kernel recent. (untill now we only had issues with the ML115 and it's built-in raid controller. But since it runs just as good with software raid, we use that  Wink )

If this should happen on critical parts (nic/scsi raid contr/..), we can always fetch a newer (testing) debian-installer with a newer kernel  Grin

Hi there.. I can't even see an OK mark for the other components on your homepage so it looks like the homepage does not interact correctly with hpasm.

Can you try uninstalling and rebuilding the .deb packages after you have installed the libstdc (libstdc++2.10-glibc2.2) that is being discussed in the thread you mentioned?

If  it still does not work; try strace and attach it ..

7  Debian on HP (non-HP software, hardware) / Server hardware / Re: DL380 G2 advice/help on: May 11, 2007, 11:56:47 pm
I'm wanting to install Debian Linux on this (either 'etch' or 'sid'), and wondered if anyone had any exxperience with this hardware and Debian?

Are there any potential pitfalls I should be aware of?

Any other help and advice would be greatly appreciated to aid getting my server up and running in as timely and smoothly a manner as I've become accustomed to with Debian (been using it for about 5 years now).

Hi, welcome to the forum..

I don't think there are special pitfalls (we have installed a server like that a year ago) when using this model with debian etch (aka stable these days!), everything should go fine!

However, if you come across any issues, please report..

cheers!
8  Debian on HP (non-HP software, hardware) / Server hardware / Re: ML370 G3 reboots spontaneously on: May 05, 2007, 08:32:20 am
Indeed, since it's an older model (G3) the first thing you should try is get a new firmware (bios and maybe also scsi) loaded.

After that, see if it still reboots.. Also check the (correct) working of the fans, but normally this should be indicated in the logs if something should go wrong..

cheers..

As Debian Etch is frozen and soon to be released as the new stable version, do you thing it worth to have a etch-version of the script for HPASM?

Well, I think the script does work on etch! Most servers I install are etch now, it saves us from doing a dist-upgrade in the next few.. weeks/months :-)

But my question is if any one of you knows if there is about to be any releases for other HP machines like DL 360 and so on.

Nice to read someone testing it! I have no idea if they plan to release them for other machines, would be very nice but we're still waiting for it..

cheers!

Oh, nice! And now let's hope etch will ship with 2.6.18, but I guess it will..  Cheesy
Thanks for the info!

Question about the dl320g4 and ilo2: are you able to use remote console (not serial) of ilo2 without the ilo-advanced-license? This was possible for me so far using ilo (version 1), but is no longer with ilo2. Did HP remove the remote console feature from the standard license?

Well, as far as I can tell, the iLO2 is not very different from 1. I don't have an HP with iLO 2 nearby for the moment (will test in the next few days), but according to the HP website the console access still exists:

Found on the HP website:
Quote from: HP website
The iLO2 Standard features include, simplified setup, text-based console for access to server boot sequences and text-mode operating system console, group configuration and server actions, remote power on/off, SSL security, detailed server status, logs, alert forwarding, virtual indicators, diagnostics, and automatic server recovery.

good luck, and if you can't find it, let us know!

The only problem I have is "uhci_hcd" which seems to have troubles with the ilo2 virtual mouse/keyboard - these devices connect and disconnect in a neverending loop. The only option right now is rmmod this module.

This is a kernel issue, when you use a newer kernel (like 2.6.17 or .18) this problem should be gone. The latest etch installer uses 2.6.17 so they should work a expected.

hi snowsam,

I have been testing with some users, and both logins seem to work.
I did however just synched the smf and joomla databases, maybe that has to do something with it, can you try again?

@HOK ; you could try the v0.0.2 version of the scripts, but the only thing different is the version of the agents they use.
